Women in Logistics

About

Women in Logistics (WIL) is an industry-wide initiative addressing the critical labor and driver shortages in chemical logistics. Our solution is clear: a more balanced workforce, where women and men contribute equally, is not just a fairness goal: it’s a business imperative.

Gender balance as a business opportunity
The logistics industry remains male-dominated—women make up less than 6% of truck drivers in Europe. At WIL, we believe that improving gender balance directly tackles labor shortages, enhances performance, and strengthens European competitiveness. Research shows diverse teams are more innovative, sustainable, and financially successful.

An unique collaboration for real change
Founded by Dow and H.Essers, WIL brings together chemical producers, logistics providers, and key associations like ECTA and Cefic. Partners including Den Hartogh, Bertschi, Hoyer Group, Alisan Logistic, LyondellBasell, Eastman, and ExxonMobil have joined the mission—demonstrating that collaboration across the industry is not only possible, but powerful.

A practical, inclusive approach
WIL supports gradual, data-driven progress toward gender balance—starting with small, impactful steps. Our goal isn’t quotas, but equity. Even a 30/70 balance can improve recruitment, innovation, and safety across the board.

By closing the gender gap, we’re building a more inclusive, attractive, and resilient logistics industry. A balanced workforce isn’t just an advantage—it’s essential for long-term success.

Join us in driving the change.
